A Study in Transformation
This gallery documents an ongoing residential renovation photographed over a series of commissioned sessions as the home’s interior spaces evolved through the remodeling process. The images presented here focus exclusively on the interior architecture and design, capturing the relationship between light, material, form, and atmosphere as each space gradually takes shape.
At the time of publication, the exterior architecture and surrounding grounds have not yet undergone their planned restoration and therefore remain intentionally absent from this collection. Their future inclusion will complete the visual narrative of the property and its relationship to the remarkable landscape in which it resides.
Photographed in homage to Julius Shulman, widely regarded as the grandfather of modern architectural photography, this body of work draws inspiration from his enduring ability to reveal architecture not merely as structure, but as a living environment shaped by human presence. Through his celebrated documentation of the great modernist architects of the twentieth century—including Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, Pierre Koenig, and many others—Shulman helped define the visual language through which modern architecture would come to be understood and appreciated around the world.
Central to Shulman’s philosophy was the belief that architecture gains its fullest meaning when inhabited. His photographs frequently incorporated people, furnishings, plants, and natural light to create a sense of scale, warmth, and authenticity, transforming buildings from static objects into living spaces with character and purpose.
Inspired by this approach, the present series seeks to document not only the architecture itself, but also the personality, aspirations, and design sensibilities expressed within it. Conceived by a husband-and-wife team whose backgrounds span real estate investment and development, the residence reflects a contemporary modern approach to style and design—one rooted in clean lines, thoughtful material selections, functional elegance, and a deep appreciation for the relationship between interior space and the surrounding environment.
Perched high above the Hudson River, the property commands sweeping views of the water and some of the region’s most spectacular sunsets. Envisioned as both a private retreat and a destination for commercial rentals, creative productions, and intimate events, the home represents the convergence of lifestyle, hospitality, and modern design.
Through this lens, the residence becomes more than a collection of rooms and furnishings. It stands as a reflection of its creators’ personal character, entrepreneurial vision, and contemporary aesthetic—a living portrait expressed through architecture, light, landscape, and experience.
